TEACAKE BAKE SHOP JOINS ANNUAL CUPCAKES FOR A CAUSE™ WEEK TO SUPPORT KIDS AFFECTED BY CANCER

Teacake Bake Shop and bakeries nationwide find a way to make life a little sweeter for children and their families

Emeryville, CA –September 29, 2008—From October 20 - 26, 2008, Teacake Bake Shop and other leading bakeries from across the country will team up with parents and kids for the fifth annual Cupcakes for a Cause™, supporting children affected by cancer. All three Teacake Bake Shop Bay Area locations will be taking part in the event.

Participating bakeries in the week-long event will sell specially decorated cupcakes and donate a portion of the proceeds from their sale to CancerCare for Kids®, a program that provides free, professional counseling and support services to children affected by cancer.

Each cupcake sold through the Cupcakes for a Cause campaign bears a candy version of the smiling-face logo of the CancerCare for Kids program. Last year’s event raised more than $60,000 for the program. Teacake Bake Shop plans to decorate and donate the proceeds of a customer favorite, their Pink Velvet cupcake, for the event.

“We jumped at the opportunity to participate in the Cupcakes for a Cause event. We are always looking for ways to give back to our community and partner with worthy causes, especially those that support children and health,” said Teacake Bake Shop owner, Agnes Hsu. Teacake Bake Shop has also donated to and partnered with many other charitable organizations, including the Children’s Hospital & Research Center Oakland, National Gardening Association and MOCHA (The Museum of Children’s Art), among others.

“Cupcakes for a Cause is a great way to do something fun with your family while helping children affected by this devastating disease,” said Diane Blum, executive director of CancerCare. “Children diagnosed with cancer, and those who have a parent or sibling with cancer, face very difficult emotional questions and concerns that most kids their age don’t have. Our oncology-trained social workers help children understand cancer, talk about their feelings and become less afraid of the disease.”

Starting October 1, parents and kids can help raise awareness and additional funds for the program by visiting the official Cupcakes for a Cause website, at www.cupcakesforacause.org, where they can decorate their own virtual E-Cupcake and send it to a friend. For every E-Cupcake sent, a donation will be made to the program.

Additionally, new to the campaign this year is the first-ever National Bake Sale Contest sponsored by Duncan Hines.
